I'll try not to turn this into dueling anecdotes).<br /><br />1) The central purpose of an internship is for the student/intern to receive experience, education, training, mentorship.<br /><br />2) We've lived through a period of internship expansion, during which companies were taking on more interns.<br /><br />3) We should be concerned that this increase in internship opportunities is partially fueled by companies seeking unpaid labor for unskilled or unsavory tasks that do not bestow the kind of experiential learning that is the true purpose of an internship.<br /><br />4) NYT anecdote aside - the cost of an unpaid internship is a significant barrier for many.<br /><br />In conclusion:<br /><br />Exploitative and evil?
